UNDERWATER ARCHEOLOGY PARC: A UNIQUE PROJECT AND A UNIQUE DIVE...

In October 2006, we have celebrated the opening of "ARCHE-PARK", our Underwater Archeology Park.  This project was realized with the cooperation of two associations with the same dreams ("360 degrees: Society of Historical Research", and "Society of Underwater Research - SAD"), volonteers from Kas and local dive centres. These participants gathered under the "Kas Maritime History Research Association, DETAD, whose web site is www.kas-arkeopark.org.tr

On October 28, 2006, in Hidayet Bay, we have sunk a replica of "Uluburun Boat", whose wreck, discovered in 1982 a few miles from Kas, is the oldest one in the world to be excavated with all its tresors.  This 14th century BC wreck is currentlly displayed at the Underwater Archeology Museum in Bodrum.  The "360 Degrees" society had already built a naviguable replica of this ship baptised Uluburun II, the muse of our project in Kas.

This replica-wreck that we called Uluburun III, built by Kas artisans and sunk near Kas as the key figure of ARCHEO-PARK, is very impressive with its sails dancing in the currents, its cargo of imitation amphoras, cupper ingots and glass blocks, takes us back to the day of the accident...  And just next to it, we have re-built the site of the wreck as it was found in 1982 by sponge divers, ready for underwater archeology students to experiment on, and for us divers to live that excitement of discovery...

Your dive into history will definitely be memorable, and your small donations for this project will allow it to get better and to continue with its following phases: the construction of a bronze-age port as the final home to the Uluburun II boat, which will also be the Museum of Marine History of Kas.
